DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION / FINANCE

Expenditures (preliminary totals) for the General Fund for the month of January are $1,711,946 or 8.57% of the budget.  Year-to-date preliminary expenditures for the General Fund are $10,064,632 or 50.36% of the budget (fiscal year July 2009 – June 2010). For comparison purposes, the period of July through January represents 58.33% of the budget year. Total expenditures for the General Fund remain under budget for the seven month period of July through January.

Local Option Sales Tax revenue received in January is $414,606, compared to $346,721 for January of the prior year. The revenue increased in spite of the state of the economy. The fiscal year-to-date total received is $2,929,665 or 56.34% of the budget. The percentage of the budget year through January is 58.33% of the year; therefore, revenue from Local Option Sales Tax remains slightly less than budget through January.

Business license payments began to be received in January for 2010 licenses. As of the end of January, $105,752 of collections had been posted to the accounting system. This amount does not represent all license collections. An additional amount of fees had been collected but not posted to the accounting system as of the end of January. The due date for payment is February 28.

Approximately $5,000,000 of the year 2009 property taxes had been collected and posted to the accounting system by the end of January.

WHAT’S HAPPENING!

Youth Basketball – For the month of January, the Recreation Center started league play in youth basketball.  We have a total of 30 teams with eight children per team, total of 240 participants.  League play started January 8th at 6 pm-8:30 pm; January 9th at 9 am-9 pm.  Each team will play eight to ten games for the next ten (10) weeks.

Water Exercise – Our Recreation and Leisure Services offer two water exercise classes.  One is held on Monday and Wednesday 1 pm-2 pm; the second class is on Monday and Wednesday at 6pm.  These classes are very popular with participants that have limited movement due to joint pain or those that just enjoy exercising in the water.  The classes are held in our heated indoor pool.

Lift Your Body – On Tuesday and Thursday at 12 noon, JR Pierre, one of our recreation supervisors, instruct participants through a very intense floor exercise class known as Lift Your Body.  The class incorporates boxing, aerobics, step aerobics, weightlifting and jogging in a forty-five minute workout.  The participants must enjoy it because they keep coming back for more.  The class meets at 12:15 pm.

Yoga – On Wednesday night Mr. Wesley White takes his participants through a soothing yoga workout.  The participants spend an hour and fifteen minutes learning movements to help de-stress their stressful workday.  This class is held at 6:45 pm.

Sara Lee Partnership – The management at Sara Lee Corporation has approached us concerning a partnership with our recreation department.  Their representative, Buddy Conduff, has proposed a Health & Fitness Initiative for their employees to utilize our facility.  He has requested membership for workers at the resident rate of $20 per person.  Sara Lee will cover all costs as we receive new participants.

With this membership, Sara Lee workers will enjoy the privileges of our residents who use the weight room, fitness room, and basketball court.  At the present time, we have approximately forty employees involved in this program. We look forward to assisting the Sara Lee Corporation with this initiative as it promotes health, wellness, and overall well being of their workforce.
