Forest Park Fire and Emergency Services currently operate under the direction and vision of Fire Chief and EMA Director Eddie Buckholts. Chief Buckholts began his firefighting career as a volunteer with Stockbridge Fire Department in 1976. He later served as Fire Chief of this department for 5 years until becoming a career firefighter with the City of Forest Park in 1991.
During his tenure with Forest Park he was promoted thru the ranks as shift Lieutenant, Captain of Fire Training, Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Chief. Under his direction the Incident Command System was adopted, ISO rating has improved from a class 4 to a current class 2, building a Regional type II Haz-Mat team, and integration of additional equipment and staffing. Chief Buckholts has served the citizens of Forest Park as Chief since 2002.
In addition to his daily tasks for the city he has served as President for the Georgia Mutual Aid Group, Vice President of Metro Atlanta Fire Chiefs Association, District Vice President for the Georgia Fire Chief's Association, Vice Chair on the Area 7 All-Hazard Council, Vice Chair of the Area 7 Emergency Managers Association, and an Incident Commander for one of the State's Incident Management Teams. Chief Buckholts has also served on numerous committees thru-ought the state and has worked tirelessly improving the standards for firefighters and safety of the community across the state.
For his efforts Chief Buckholts has received awards as 2007 State Fire Chief of the Year, and 2005 District Vice President of the Year from Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs. Professional development includes State and National Fire Academies, Clayton State and Perimeter College. Chief Buckholts is currently a member of the Georgia Firefighters Association, Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs, and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
