Homeless Assistance Submission
Outreach to homeless assistance providers
Fort Gillem lies entirely within the city limits of Forest Park, Clayton County, Georgia. The residents of Forest Park have a vested interest in the redevelopment planning process for Fort Gillem's reuse, an interest shared by the extended community. To assure that these interests were adequately represented, the Forest Park/Fort Gillem Local Redevelopment Authority (“LRA”), formed to oversee the redevelopment process, is comprised of the Mayor of Forest Park, the Forest Park City Council, the City Manager of Forest Park, the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the President and CEO of the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce. To broaden community input, the LRA created three Sub-Committees: (i) the Healthy Community and Quality of Life Sub-Committee; (ii) the Reuse and Design Sub-Committee; and (iii) the Finance and Economic Development Sub-Committee. Each Sub-Committee is comprised of members of the LRA, employees of the City of Forest Park and Clayton County and private citizens of the City of Forest Park and Clayton County. The Mayor of the City of Lake City, a community on the southern border of Fort Gillem, also serves on a Sub-Committee. Click Here for more Information.
LEAF PICK UP GUIDELINES ...
The regulations for having your yard debris picked up Every Wednesday by our service providers, Waste Management are as follows:
Put your leaves and small yard debris in paper recycle bags. You are allowed up to 15 bags or bundles each week.
Long limbs need to be in bundles no longer than 4 feet and no bigger in diameter than 4” and tied with twine.
You may use a container other than your provided city cart as long as yard debris is all you put in the can. It is best to mark it “yard debris”.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Waste Management for their continued efforts to help the citizens of Forest Park get their yard debris picked up every Wednesday. In an effort to help, Waste Management has been gracious enough continue to pick up as many bags of leaves that our citizens have placed out in plastic bags and as many as are put to the curb, even if there are more than 15 bags while the weather remains as nice as we have been experiencing until the end of the leaf season. Next year's leaf season will be restricted to pickup only as outlined in the regulations. |
SPECIAL HELP PROGRAM/Senior and Disabled
The City of Forest Park has implemented a new program for our senior and disabled citizens for the collection of yard debris. We understand that meeting the regulations for having your yard debris picked up is a difficulty for our disabled and senior citizens. In an effort to help, the Public Works crew will, in as timely a manner as possible, bag the leaves you have raked to the edge of the street by putting the leaves and small debris into the brown paper recycle bags you provide. The crew will also help to bundle the limbs and tie with twine. This will enable your yard debris to be picked up by Waste Management on the next Wednesday. If you fall in this category and need assistance with your yard debris, please call the office of Public Works at 404-608-2310 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will then be placed on our special help list. We will need your name, phone number, residence address and where you will put the paper recycle bags for our crew to bag your leaves.
